Text: Micah 5
Hymn: 782, Gracious God, You Send Great Blessings
Kretzmann Commentary: Micah
Bonus Bumper: O Little Town of Bethlehem
Two things to note in Micah 5: the prophecy that the Messiah will be born in Bethlehem, and a remnant of Jacob shall be delivered.
In John 7, the fact that the Christ was to be born in Bethlehem supposedly disqualified Jesus from being the Christ, because he was supposedly from Nazareth, from Galilee. Nobody seemed to asked Jesus where he was actually born.
A remnant of Jacob. The small scrap. The leftovers. It doesn’t sound like the elect are going to be a large number conquering the world. Like Gideon’s 300, this is another sign that God is the one in charge, doing the work, and sending great blessings.

New each morning all our days.
For Your mercies never ending,
For your love we offer praise.Refrain
Lord, we pray that we, Your people
Who Your gifts unnumbered claim,
Through the sharing of Your blessings
May bring glory to Your name. - By Your Word You formed creation
Filled with creatures large and small;
As we tend that endless treasure
May our care encircle all.Refrain
- In His early life, our Savior
Knew the care of faithful friends;
May our deeds of dedication
Offer love that never ends.Refrain
- Heav’n-ly Father, may our caring
Bear the imprint of Your grace;
With the Son and Holy Spirit,
Praise be Yours in ev’ry place!Refrain
